MDP Must Stay In Power For 10 More Years: Nasheed

Majlis Speaker Mohamed Nasheed has claimed that the ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) needed to stay in power for 10 more years.
Nasheed said this during a speech at a campaign event for Mohamed "Rado" Rasheed, the MDP's candidate for the Komandoo bi-election. The event was held in Foakaidhoo (Shaviyani Atoll). Nasheed claimed that the MDP had already done several things for the people.
As an example, Nasheed pointed to the minimum wage. He said that resort workers from Foakaidhoo used to get paid USD250, but they now get a salary of USD500. He said that, even so, the MDP hasn't been able to take the necessary "jump".
To take the "jump", the MDP would have to stay in power for 10 more years, he claimed.
The MDP has ruled the Maldives for a total of 6 years; adding Mohamed Nasheed's 3 years and President Solih's 3 years together. The Maldives has accrued more debt under the MDP's administration than it has under any administration in recent history.
