Opposition leader, former President Abdullah Yameen Abdul Gayyoom, has decided to travel to the islands of Kaafu Atoll as part of the “India Out” campaign.
The “India Out” campaign was a grassroots movement that emerged on Maldivian social media with the focus of removing Indian military personnel and assets from the Maldives and the cancellation of the classified military agreements signed between India and the Solih administration. The political opposition has since adopted the “India Out” movement.
According to the Progressive Party of Maldives, Former President Yameen will be visiting Guraidhoo (Kaafu Atoll) tomorrow and will be speaking with people and will participate in an event calling for the removal of the Indian military. He will be traveling to Thulusdhoo (Kaafu Atoll) on Friday and will participate in an event of the “India Out” campaign.
After his acquittal, the former President had publicly announced his endorsement of the “India Out” campaign and had also declared himself as its leader. He had publicly declared that the Indian military has place in the Maldives and that all personnel and troops should immediately leave the country.
The opposition is currently running the signing of the “Defend Maldives” petition, and a motorcycle circuit has also been organised for Friday.
