MDP Govt A Disaster In The Indian Ocean: MP Saeed

MP Mohamed Saeed (PNC-Maavashu) has stated that an MDP government posed a threat to the security of the Indian Ocean region.
He made this statement via Twitter in response to the remarks of MP Mohamed Aslam (MDP-Hithadhoo Central). MP Aslam had said that the removal of the Indian military would pose a threat to the Maldives and the Maldivian people. MP Aslam is the chairperson of the Parliament Committee on National Security Services (also known as the 241 Committee).
MP Saeed characterised the 241 Committee’s chair’s support of the Defence Minister was another act of “treading on the constitution”.
He stated that keeping the Indian military in the Maldives to keep the country safe was practically the same as handing the Ministry of Defence over to India.
He had characterised the MDP government as a “disaster” in the Indian Ocean.
MP Saeed had said that the Maldives needs to save itself from Indian military presence.
Former President Yameen, the leader of the opposition, had called for the intensification of the opposition-lead “Defend Maldives” movement which calls for the removal of Indian troops from the country and the nullification of classified military agreements made between the Solih administration and India.
