Yameen Addresses Military, Urges Them To Recall Their Oaths

The leader of the opposition, former President Abdullah Yameen Abdul Gayyoom made an appeal to the generals of the Maldivian military.
Speaking at an opposition rally held at the Carnival area in Malé City last night, the former President called on the generals of the armed forces to remember their oath. He said that they had all made an oath to protect Islam and this nation, and that the military do not have to protect a president who is “losing his way”.
“You do not have to respect or maintain the government. That is not your responsibility. Recall your legal responsibility. You have made an oath, which you swore by God. You have made an oath to protect our Islamic faith and our nation”, said the former President.
He had also stated that the security forces were not responsible for implementing illegal orders.
The former President also called for the removal of the Indian military from the Maldives, and he promised to do so.
