Foreign Miinister Abdullah Shahid has made an official visit to China in his capacity as the President of the United Nations General Assembly.
Foreign Minister Shahid had been invited by the Chinese government.
Although Foreign Minister Shahid would not be representing the Maldives during his visit, several discussions that concern the Maldives have been scheduled. He said that among the subjects of discussion would be possible plans to overcome the economic damage of the pandemic, sustainable development, the global effort against climate change, and positive changes that could be made to the United Nations.
Foreign Minister Shahid had been elected to the presidency of the 76th United Nations General Assembly on September 14. He had visited the Maldives in his capacity as President of the UNGA from the 6th to the 9th of October. He is currently residing in New York.
