Opposition Meets with Commonwealth Parliamentary Association UK Regarding Yameen’s Incarceration

Opposition Vice-President MP Mohamed Saeed (Maavah) has met with the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association UK regarding the ongoing incarceration of opposition leader, former President Abdulla Yameen.
In a tweet made earlier, MP Saeed wrote that he had shared their concerns on the “unlawful detention of President Yameen of more than 700 days”. He also stated that concerns surrounding the States’ alleged exertion of undue influence over the judiciary was presented to the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association UK.
MP Saeed called on President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to release the former President, and he described his incarceration as “torture”. He also noted that the separation of powers mandated under the Constitution of Maldives should be respected.
