New Western Apron of Velana International Airport Inaugurated

The newly-developed western apron at Velana International Airport has been opened.
The western apron was officially inaugurated by the CEO and Managing Director of the Maldives Airports Company Limited, Gordon Andrew Stuart. The MD of Island Aviations, Mohamed Mihaadh, and the Chairman of the Airline Operator Committee, Mahjoob Abdullah, attended the ceremony.
The first plane to be parked in the new apron was a craft of the national airline, Maldivian.
According to MACL, the apron has the capacity for a total of 9 crafts; 7 Code-C planes and 2 Code-A planes.
The southwest apron, developed earlier, was also opened. The apron can hold 5 wide-body aircraft and 1 narrow-body aircraft.
The aprons were developed as part of former President Yameen Abdul Gayyoom's massive airport development project. In addition to the aprons, the project developed a new international terminal, a new fuel farm, a new runway, a new cargo terminal, and a new seaplane terminal.
