MP Saeed Criticises President For Frequent Travelling

MP Mohamed Saeed (Maavah) has criticised the President for his frequent trips abroad.
MP Saeed tweeted saying that President Solih “needs to end his honeymoon trips and stay in the Maldives”. He said that he should get to the office and work on the budget. MP Saeed said that 2022’s budget is likely to be “a giant mess”, just like the previous year.
President Solih is currently in Dubai, and will be travelling to Scotland soon. He was in the United States, last month. He had travelled to Qatar and Dubai twice before. President Solih has travelled to five countries this year alone.
President Solih’s frequency of travelling abroad is unprecedented in recent history, and the State had spent nearly MVR 16 million in the first year of his presidency alone.
In an interview while on the campaign trail, the would-be President had mentioned his love of travelling and had said that he and his wife would travel to a new country every year.
The State has spent more than MVR 100 million on travel this year.
