Parliament representative for Vilufushi constituency Hassan Afeef has made major accusations against the doctors in the Technical Advisory Group (TAG) team formed to advise the government on efforts to manage the COVID-19 pandemic.
During a parliament debate on the sudden proposition from Nolhivaram MP Mohamed Nasheed Abdulla (Mosta), Afeef claimed that the clinics run by TAG team doctors run rapid tests and falsely name them as PCR tests. He stated that the rate of positive cases must be taken into consideration, and claimed that cases have been increasing due to performing rapid tests under the guise of PCR tests.
Afeef stated that such occurrences will hinder the efforts to control COVID-19. "If the doctors who are supposed to control such incidents and establish a proper system are being deceptive, how can we control this?", said Afeef, stressing that the government must monitor such incidents.
While the issue is being discussed within the public, Afeef iterated there is no smoke without fire, and that the issue would not be spoken of if there was no truth to it. He highlighted the importance of monitoring the issues.
He further noted that the ventilators are no longer being spoken of, and in the end, the advance payment sent to the Dubai company will be declared nonexistent.
