Govt Attempting to Change Nation's Religion: Sembe

Parliament representative for Faresmathoda constituency Hussain Mohamed Latheef (Sembe) has accused the government of attempting to change Islam in the Maldives in conjunction with neighboring countries.
During the opposition’s gathering on Sunday night, Sembe stated that the government has been challenging the direct instructions of Allah, and is now altering the verses of the Quran in the books of young children.
He highlighted that the sweetest fruit and the secret to Maldivians’ joyful lives are Islam.
“Harassment of Islam has been increasing due to the current government. This is a strategically planned effort”, he said, heavily criticizing the government.
Sembe claimed that the Quran and the Prophet Mohamed’s sunnah (sayings and practices) have been muddled. He noted that former President Yameen’s government attempted to conserve the religion. However, since coming into power, Maldives Democratic Party (MDP) has been working to modify the religion.
