Maldives Police Service has revealed that they received information regarding former Tourism Minister Ali Waheed’s arrest in the United Kingdom.
Police on Monday publicized that UK police forces have officially informed the Maldivian authorities that Ali Waheed has been arrested for immigration crimes.
Ali Waheed was arrested in the UK on August 25, before a meeting he had arranged with the Maldivian press. Sources claim that the Maldivian government reported the former minister to the UK authorities as he has overstayed his visa. It is assumed to be a tactic to interfere with the press conference.
Ali Waheed is currently being held at the Gatwick Airport detention center.
