State Expends More on Official Trips Compared to Last Year

State expenditure on travel by August 26, 2021, has exceeded the amount spent within the same duration the previous year.

Figures published by the Ministry of Finance show that the government has spent MVR 71.6 million on travel between January 1, 2021, and August 26, 2021. Last year, the government spent MVR 70.8 million during the same period.

Government officials have been making several trips. Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid is currently abroad, and President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih is preparing to visit some Southern Atolls.

During President Solih's first year of presidency, MVR 16.4 million was spent on his expeditions alone. In a previous interview, he stated that he enjoyed traveling outside of the country.
