Dhapparu, the island meant to be leased for India’s Second Home Project, has been separated from the jurisdiction of adjacent Filladhoo, Haa Alif Atoll.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih declared Dhapparu to be removed from Filladhoo’s jurisdiction. The presidential decree published in the Gazette today read that the President is authorized to determine the jurisdictions of island and city councils under the Decentralization Act.
The first decree regarding island jurisdictions placed Dhapparu under the Filladhoo Council’s jurisdiction. However, President Solih has now amended the decree as he believes the jurisdiction should be changed.
According to the decree, Dhapparu, Haa Alif Atoll, has now been removed from Filladhoo jurisdiction. The island has now been declared for resort use.
Dhiyares previously acquired documents regarding the special plan on Dhipparu’s second home project. However, the government then stated that it has no intention of establishing a second home on Dhapparu.
