Former Vice President Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed has stated that President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's only aim is to unjustly punish former President Yameen Abdul Gayoom.
Dr. Jameel, head of the former president's legal team, tweeted today that the state has raised several charges against President Yameen. He noted that the court hearing for charges of money laundering and accepting a bribe will be held today and that he has been informed the state is preparing to raise several additional charges.
The former VP iterated that President Solih assumed office beating the drum of justice. During his 2018 campaign, he claimed he would bring justice to corruption and crime. The president also vowed to investigate and bring justice to cases of enforced deaths and disappearances.
Former President Yameen, former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb, and Managing Director of Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) Abdulla Ziyath have been charged in the MMPRC corruption case. Out of which, Adeeb and Ziyath signed plea agreements with the government for leniency in exchange for testifying against the former president.
Dr. Jameel questioned what matter of corruption President Solih has investigated. He accused the president of directly influencing the ventilators case and the case of Youth Minister Ahmed Mahloof, stating there is a long list of things influenced by the President.
