Parliament representative for Maduvvari constituency Adam Shareef Umar has stated that a majority of Addu residents now believe that former President and Opposition Leader Yameen Abdul Gayoom can bring major changes to Addu City.
During the opposition Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM)-People’s National Congress (PNC) coalition’s ongoing visit to Addu City, former Defense Minister Adam Shareef informed the media outlet Addu Live that the residents of Addu have always loved development, and that he believes Addu residents voted for the current government expecting more development projects than former President Yameen had conducted.
Adam Shareef noted that Addu citizens have been inquiring about the date of President Yameen’s release. He added that the citizens consider the government a failure due to the disconnect between the government and the public, as well as the numerous projects that have been left incomplete and the government’s lack of concern.
“The public now believes the government to be a failed state. Considering President Yameen’s contributions to Addu and the current government’s lack of efforts, the residents of Addu believe that President Yameen can bring major changes to Addu”, said Adam Shareef, who worked closely with the former president.
The Maduvvari MP claimed that Addu’s political scene has been changing drastically, with increasing support for President Yameen. He revealed that there has been considerable support for the opposition during their visit to Addu City.
