Male’ City Mayor Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the council will soon declare the maximum number of vehicles allowed in Male’ in efforts to reduce congestion.
During a meeting to discuss the public’s opinion on Male’ City’s land-use plan, Dr. Muizzu claimed that the Male’ City Council is responsible for declaring the number of vehicles allowed in Male’.
The mayor revealed that the efforts have been delayed due to insufficient support from the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation. According to Muizzu, the council has sent a letter to the ministry requesting specifications of the number and types of vehicles currently in Male’, and that that the request was also made in a previous meeting with the ministry.
Minister Aishath Nahula has also been asked to share the information, said Muizzu. However, the ministry has yet to provide the information.
Dr. Muizzu claimed that although the council is attempting to determine the number of vehicles allowed without delay, it does not make sense to do so without knowing the number of vehicles currently in Male’.
