Preliminary Hearing for Charges Against Dr. Muizzu on Tuesday

The preliminary hearing for the state’s charges against Dr. Mohamed Muizzu for providing a false statement in the Noomadi case is to be held on Tuesday.
The Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) stated that Dr. Muizzu provided a false statement against the government as a witness for Noomadi Resorts and Residences on June 25, 2019, at the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague, Netherlands.
Muizzu testified that the company was working without delays in accordance with a Phase 1 housing unit project agreement signed between the government and Noomadi in 2011, and a Phase 2 agreement signed in 2013.
The PGO highlighted that Dr. Muizzu falsely claimed he was not involved in the government’s discussions to repossess Dhiffushi, Lhaviayni Atoll, which was leased to Noomadi for the construction of luxury villas.
Dr. Muizzu was summoned to police and the Parliamentary Committee on Economic Affairs regarding the matter. He has been summoned to the Criminal Court tomorrow for a preliminary hearing. The issue against Dr. Muizzu was sent for prosecution in June last year.
