Former Vice President Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed has stated that Maldives Democratic Party’s (MDP) leadership is now an unlawful leadership.
Speaking at the launching ceremony of the opposition coalition’s “Maldivians in Defense of Independence” campaign on Friday night, Dr. Jameel claimed that MDP’s leadership has become illegal in more ways than one.
Dr. Jameel also stated that MDP introduces two major projects every time they assume office. First, the initiative to allow people to act as they please in the Maldives. The former VP accused MDP of repeated efforts to establish the freedom to conduct un-Islamic acts.
MDP leadership penalizes average citizens, fining Maldivian citizens for minor infractions like parking violations. However, they have never penalized a president or ministers.
Dr. Jameel highlighted that the constitution clearly states a minister is not allowed to pursue additional work unrelated to their position as minister.
He claimed it is a danger for Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid to have another vocation in addition to his position as minister. Dr. Jameel accused President Solih of following illegal practices and speculated that Foreign Minister Shahid holds the key to all projects that are a threat to Maldives’ independence.
Additionally, Dr. Jameel stated that efforts in defense of independence will conclude once former President Yameen Abdul Gayoom is freed and elected as President.
