Parliament representative for Henveiru-Central constituency Ali Azim has responded to Male’ City Mayor Dr. Mohmed Muizzu’s tweet regarding citizens’ complaints of the increase in this month’s electricity bills.
Ali Azim, Leader of Maldives Democratic Party’s (MDP) Parliamentary Group, tweeted that difficulties faced by Male’ residents due to the increase in electricity bills are the result of the previous government’s actions.
“The difficulties and hardships faced today are due to the actions of the past”, said Azim.
He claimed that the situation is the result of non-viable economic decisions made by the cabinet Dr. Muizzu was part of. Azim assured that the future will be made better.
Azim did not elaborate on which of the former government’s economic decisions caused the increase in this month’s electricity bill.
It is worth noting that former President Yameen Abdul Gayoom’s government developed a new engine house in Hulhumale’, and initiated a project to provide electricity to Male’ and Hulhule’ as well. The project was recently completed, and electricity for Male’ and Hulhumale’ have been connected by one grid.
The current government has been insinuating that the citizens’ complaints on numerous issues have been caused by the previous government.
