Mayor of Male’ City Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that most Male’ residents are unable to afford this month’s household electricity bills.
Dr. Muizzu made his statement following a concerned citizen’s request to find the reason behind the abnormal increase in electricity bills.
The resident, in a Viber group with Mayor Muizzu, highlighted that a bill that usually amounts to MVR 600 has increased to MVR 1,000. Other members of the group also mentioned the increase in their utility bills, asking the mayor to investigate.
An issue regarding an increase in bills following a discount in utility bills surfaced previously.
Mayor Muizzu tweeted that poorer families are further disadvantaged by such matters and that residents are now being forced to pay bills with money they do not have.
