President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has yet to respond to the ruling Maldives Democratic Party's (MDP) motion calling for the announcement of a State of Emergency to apprehend extremists.
Spokesperson for the President's Office Mabrook Azeez informed online news Adhadhu that the President has not commented on the matter as of yet.
President Solih is currently on an unofficial visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
MDP on Tuesday released a motion to declare a state of emergency. The motion was presented by Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed, and passed with 39 votes from the 142-member MDP National Majilis.
Members of President Solih's cabinet did not attend the Natila Majilis meeting. Leader of MDP's Parliamentary Group and parliament representative for Henveiru-Central constituency Ali Azim attended the session but did not vote for the motion.
Lately, President Solih and former President Nasheed have been disagreeing on several matters. Nasheed has previously announced that he is no longer politically aligned with President Solih.
