Lawyer of President Yameen Abdul Gayoom and former Vice President Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed has stated he feels sorrow as former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, President Yameen’s brother, is shying away from the truth.
President Maumoon claimed that President Yameen must not be allowed to partake in the elections while facing a prison sentence. In response, Dr. Jameel tweeted he feels great sorrow due to President Maumoon’s inability to tell the truth, as such statements reflect poor judgment.
According to Dr. Jameel, advisor of the opposition Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), President Yameen’s court case is unjust and is a clear display of flaws in the law. “Stating as such shows poor judgment”, he said regarding President Maumoon.
President Maumoon has stated that Yameen cannot partake in the elections as his prison sentence stands. He further stated the only way President Yameen will be allowed to run for presidency is if the court ruling is dismissed, or if he is freed in some other way.
