President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has met with some members of parliament representing the Maldives Democratic Party (MDP).
The meeting on Monday night was held at his residence, the presidential palace Muliaage. Each member entered the residence to meet President Solih individually. The divide within the president's party MDP has been growing. It was recently revealed that President Solih and the Leader of MDP Mohamed Nasheed have ceased working together politically.
Based on the few votes for the resolution presented to the MDP National Majilis on Sunday night by Mohamed Nasheed, they have decided to request President Solih to declare a State of Emergency. It is worth noting that the vast majority of the MDP National Majilis did not attend the session.
Sources report that those summoned to the meeting on Monday night include the Leader of the MDP Parliamentary Group and parliament representative for Henveiru-Central constituency Ali Azim, and 10 other members.
