Criminal Court has decided to deport the tourist arrested at Velana International Airport (VIA) for being in possession of bullets while attempting to leave the country, without prosecution.
The 60-year-old Namibian male arrested on June 10 was arrested after discovering bullets in his possession. A police spokesperson stated that once his latest remand of three days expired on July 14, instead of being taken to court to increase remand, he was freed.
Police revealed that instead of sending the man for prosecution, he has been handed over to immigration for deportation. However, it is unclear as to why he is being deported instead of being prosecuted.
Despite repeated queries, police refused to confirm whether the man obtained the bullets from within Maldives, or whether he had them in his possession prior to entering the country.
