Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed has declared that former Minister of Foreign Affairs late Fathulla Jameel was a knowledgeable philosopher.
The new Foreign Ministry building, dubbed Fathulla Jameel Building, was officially opened during a ceremony held on Thursday. The ceremony was officiated by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. Foreign Minister Shahid, the Chief Judge, and other ministry officials were also in attendance.
Speaking at the event, Minister Shahid stated the building was named after the last minister to commemorate his valuable contributions to the country.
Former President Nasheed tweeted on Thursday that the late Fathulla Jameel provided numerous opportunities for small nations to fill significant roles in international affairs.
Praising Fathulla Jameel, Nasheed claimed he had been a knowledgeable philosopher. He stated that the new name for the Foreign Ministry's building is appropriate.
The late Fathulla Jameel studied at Azhar University with former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom and served as a member of his cabinet for a number of years. Minister Fathulla Jameel was among those heavily criticized by Maldives Democratic Party (MDP) before President Maumoon resigned.
During the tenure of President Maumoon, MDP-run media Dhivehi Observer and Minivan News published several articles making obscene accusations against Fathulla Jameel.
