Nasheed Decides to Leave Pres. Solih, Seek Support from Pres. Yameen

Former President and incumbent Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed has decided to leave President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, and ask for the support of former President Yameen Abdul Gayoom.
In a message sent to the WhatsApp group of the Maldives Democratic Party (MDP) National Majilis, he stated that he is no longer shared the same political ideologies as President Solih. He further stated that they would still remain together on personal matters, and his children's "Ibu Dhombe" will always be their uncle.
However, he is no longer politically aligned with President Solih.
"Although some MDP members will be displeased, there is nothing I can do about it", said Nasheed.
Additionally, he claimed that he would ask for the support of former President Yameen and the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) if they ever chose to advocate a moderate religious view.
Nasheed acknowledged that extremist beliefs were present within MDP and that the party has adopted the views of coalition partners and the Chief of Staff. He claimed that even if he could never rule the country again, he no longer wished to stand with them.
"I wish for a coalition of members with moderate religious views. Even if it is PPM, this is more important now".
Nasheed declared that extremists were preparing for war, and suspected that the government is trying to please them for the sake of the coalition. According to a foreign agency, they are preparing for war as the Taliban have taken over Afghanistan after the American soldiers' departure, and they fear the joining of these two sides, said Nasheed. There is no proof to support President Nasheed's claim. He has previously made repeated false claims based on information he allegedly received from foreign agencies.
Nasheed claimed that he needed future generations to still have the Maldives and that he no longer wants to become president. "I don't want to become president, I've done it already, there's nothing I haven't done. Even the president is stuck".
He reiterated the importance of discussing these topics with President Yameen.
As of recent, Nasheed has been expressing his enthusiasm to work alongside former President Yameen. Neither President Yameen, nor PPM have made any indication of wanting to work with President Nasheed.
