Vice President of Jumhooree Party, parliament representative for Thimarafushi constituency Abdulla Riyaz, and parliament representative for Dhangethi constituency, and former Minister of Defense Colonel (Rtd) Mohamed Nazim have left Jumhooree Party.
Former Commissioner of Police Abdullah Riyaz and Colonel Nazim left the party to form a new political party. In letters addressed to the Leader of Jumhooree Party and Maamigili MP Gasim Ibrahim, Riyaz and Nazim declared they have decided to form a political party to serve the nation and the public. They are no longer affiliated with Jumhooree Party as of Sunday.
It is worth noting that Leader Gasim Ibrahim has previously described Colonel Nazim as disloyal.
Those joining the political party of Colonel Nazim and Riyaz include members who were elected for parliament with tickets from Jumhooree Party and nonpartisan members. Villimale' MP Ahmed Usham and Nolhivaram MP Mohamed Nasheed Abdulla are confirmed members.
Sources claim that Colonel Nazim and MP Riyaz are planning to join National Solidarity Party, spearheaded by former Minister Abdulla Kamaaluddin.
