Lawyer for President Yameen Abdul Gayoom and former Vice President Dr. Mohamed Jameel declared that summoning former President Yameen to Police on Saturday displays the negative influence on state institutions.
Dr. Jameel posted a tweet regarding the former President being summoned to police at 2 pm on Saturday. Speaking to Dhiyares, the former Vice President speculated that President Yameen was being summoned to Police as a distraction from other major issues in the country.
He further stated that the former President was being summoned as the presidential commission formed by President Solih to investigate the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) corruption case has been unable to find any leads.
The tweet motioned to parliament members of the Maldives Democratic Party (MDP) verbally attacking other members and calling for the resignation of President Solih.
Dr. Jameel stated that the situation in parliament has revealed the true nature of MDP, that the party makes irrelevant arguments and promotes personal agendas.
He claimed incapable ministers could not be held accountable by the parliament. He also suspected apparent corruption within the government.
