MDP Members Must be Ashamed for Hiding After Attack on Nahseed: Adam Shareef

Parliament representative for Maduvvari constituency and former Minister of Defence Adam Shareef declared that members of Maldives Democratic Party (MDP) should be ashamed for going into hiding after the assassination attempt on President of MDP and Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed.
During a discussion regarding the government's bill to make the Anti-Terrorism Act more severe, Adam Shareef claimed that the government's efforts to serve justice and the extent to which they inquired about Nasheed's health must be questioned.
"I believe MDP members must also be ashamed of hiding in their homes after former President Nasheed sustained such grievous injuries. Members of MDP don't need to raise their voices against terrorism today", said Adam Shareef, criticizing members of ruling MDP today.
He further stated that MDP must now be ashamed to even speak on terrorism, and if anyone in the Maldives is attempting to recruit people to commit an act of terrorism, they are among the government. The Vice President of People's National Congress (PNC) Adam Shareef claimed that many among the government believe so as well.
According to MP Adam Shareef, laws must be strengthened to abolish terrorism. However, due to the government's policies, he is unable to tell whether extremists and terrorists are increasing or decreasing.
"In the efforts to abolish terrorism, all we see are arguments and attempts to anger people", said Adam Shareef, mentioning that other countries use calmer, more effective regulations to abolish terrorism.
