The body of a brutally murdered 13-year-old has been sent to Trivandrum, India for postmortem.
Police reported that the body, in a Maldivian flight, departed today at 10.15 am.
Previously, police claimed that the postmortem was delayed due to delayed arrangements in India.
Although police have the power to conduct a postmortem without the consent of the deceased in accordance with the Criminal Procedure Code, they stated that the family of the victim consented to the postmortem to determine how the child died.
The body was recovered on June 21 in a suitcase dumped in the waters of Hulhumale' Phase 2, around 2.30 am.
Police discovered the body during an investigation launched after the family reported his kidnapping.
While two Maldivian males aged 17 and 27 were arrested for the crime, the 27-year-old, accused of sexual assault by police, is being detained until prosecution.
