Male' City Council to Establish City-Wide Wi-Fi Network

Male' City Council has announced its decision to establish a city-wide wi-fi network.
Mayor of Male' City Dr. Mohamed Muizzu declared that the matter of establishing a city-wide wi-fi network system is being discussed with Dhiraagu and Ooredoo, the two largest internet service providers in the country. The two companies will present their proposals in the following week.
According to Dr. Muizzu, the council's aim is to connect all of the Greater Male' Area. The project will begin in Male', then proceed to Villimale'.
He further stated that the project will be initiated in Hulhumale' once the city's municipal services are transferred to the City Council.
"We aim to develop Male' City to provide limited free-access wi-fi in public spaces, communal areas, and streets", said the Mayor.
Dr. Muizzu claimed that once the wi-fi system is established, internet speeds may differ from area to area.
The wi-fi network system is part of the new City Council's Strategic Action Plan.
While the City Council has decided to develop a city-wide wi-fi network, the government has announced the 30 percent reduction in internet prices effective Thursday.
