The development project of roads on Male' City was halted to implement changes proposed by Male' City Mayor Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
The contract with Road Development Corporation (RDC) for the second segment of the "Male' Streetscaping Project was signed during the term of former Mayor Shifa Mohamed. However, Managing Director of RDC Moosa Ali Manik posted a tweet claiming the project was temporarily halted to incorporate major changes in the scope of the project requested by the current mayor.
Moosa Ali Manik stated that councilors of Henveiru and Machchangoalhi districts approached the company to inquire about the reason why construction had stopped. "The project is temporarily halted upon the mayor's request, to bring major changes to the scope of the project", said Manik.
Changes include an evaluation of the four-foot-wide running track to be constructed. The MVR 462 million project is expected to be completed within a two-and-a-half-year period.
The project includes solving flooding, solving dewatering issues in construction, eliminating the need to dig up pavements for maintenance purposes, installing fire hydrants, road signs, and a camera system.
