Security Removed from Deputy Speaker's Residence

Security provided by Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) at the residence of Deputy Speaker of Parliament Eva Abdulla on Monday was halted.
Sources informed Dhiyares the sister newspaper of TMJ that officers were on guard at the residence on Monday evening. However, there have been no officers on guard since late Monday night. A member of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security anonymously reported that security for the deputy speaker was halted as Minister of Defence Mariya Didi is unhappy with the ongoing parliament inquiry.
Since the May 6 attack on former President and incumbent Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed, Eva has stepped into his role. The informant was concerned with the sudden removal of security during the inquiry, as Eva also holds a vulnerable position.
The Deputy Speaker has yet to comment on the issue raised by Dhiyares. MNDF Spokesperson Major Ibrahim Azim also refused to comment on the matter.
Additionally, the family of Speaker Mohamed Nasheed reported that security at his residence, Keneree ge, has been reduced.
Ahmed Shahid, the husband of Eva Abdulla, accompanied the former President on his trip to Germany to seek further treatment after the attack on May 6.
