Chairman of the Maldives Democratic Party’s (MDP) ‘May 6’ Committee Hassan Afeef declared that former President Mohamed Nasheed had limited movement of three of his fingers due to injuries sustained when an IED exploded outside his residence on the night on May 6.
Former President and incumbent Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed suffered major injuries in the attack that occurred on Neeloafaru Hingun, near Majeedhee Magu.
During a meeting where the ‘May 6’ Committee, formed to investigate the terrorist attack, was to share its findings with the MDP council, Hassan Afeef claimed he contacted President Nasheed to inquire about his current status.
He stated the former president had a 50 percent loss in function of his left elbow, as well as three fingers on his left hand. “The President claimed his left elbow was only 50 percent functional. Three fingers on his right hand were very much frozen, only ten percent functional. Of all his injuries, only the one in his foot is yet to heal”, said Afeef.
The committee also requested meetings with several panels but has only met with the parliament’s ‘241 Committee’ for National Security. Afeef observed the 241 Committee’s work was extremely professional, with members of all political parties participating and working with dedication.
