Ali Waheed's Hearing to be Held Behind Closed Doors

The Criminal Court decided former Minister of Tourism Ali Waheed's hearing will be held behind closed doors.
According to the court, the hearing at 3 pm was declared confidential as it deals with accusations of sexual harassment.
The court exercised Article 42 (c) of the Constitution of Maldives, to exclude the public from all or part of the trial, in the interest of those involved in the case.
Ali Waheed was to attend his hearing virtually, from the High Commission of the Maldives in London, UK.

One count of sexual violence
One count of attempted rape
One count of exposure of sexual organs of oneself
One count of sexual abuse
One count of attempted sexual abuse
Two counts of requesting inappropriate sexual relationships
While awaiting trial, Ali Waheed was granted his passport after assigning Minister of State for Youth, Sports, and Community Empowerment Ashadh Ali as guarantor for his return.
The public criticized the former minister for departing to the UK amidst serious allegations.
