The Speaker of the Majlis, Mohamed Nasheed, has made statements that indicate that all measures against the spread of COVID-19 should be abolished.
Speaker Nasheed mentioned this on his Twitter account. He had said this with regard to the changes made to some of the Health Protection Agency's (HPA) guidelines in place during the state of public health emergency. The HPA had changed its guidelines on how long cafes and restaurants could stay open.
During the third peak of the COVID-19 in Male City, the HPA had declared that cafes and restaurants would not be permitted to allow customers to enter their premises after 8pm. The HPA had continuned to relax this guideline every week until last night.
The HPA cancelled the guideline today, allowing cafes and restaurants to be open for service until 10:30pm.
Speaker Nasheed, in response, had said that the owners of cafes and restaurants did not believe that allowing them to stay in service until 10:30pm every night "was not a solution".
With regards to the current HPA guidelines in place, Speaker Nasheed had said that all of them had to go.
