The Maldives Police Service have said that they would pursue legal action against protesters.
Speaking at a news conference of the Health Emergency Operations Centre last night, Superintendent Abdulla Shareef said that if the protests in Malé were to continue, they would charge them with obstructing public administration under Section 510 of the Penal Code.
While the Police have threatened protesters with legal actions, clashes between protesters and the Police had taken place yesterday. Fifteen Special Operations officers had also assaulted a group of reporters in a restaurant; eyewitnesses claim that the Police had struck some of them with chairs.
The protesters demand that the government make amends for the final Hiyaa flat allocations made by the Presidential Committee Investigating Public Housing Schemes.
