Yameen's Efforts to Provide Housing for the People Clearly Seen: Shiyam

Former President Yameen Abdul Gayyoom's efforts to provide housing for the people can be clearly seen, said MP Ahmed Shiyam (Naifaru).
MP Shiyam, Vice President of the opposition PPM, had said this in a statement he had tweeted in response to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's remarks at the MDP National Majlis. President Solih had claimed that this government would "solve" the issue of housing. President Solih had also claimed that it was this government that had completed the 7,000 housing units of the Hiyaa flat programme.
However, the structure of all of the flats had been completed in 2018.
"President Yameen had understood that housing was the greatest need of the citizens and dredged land up from the sea in 5 years. The work done on that land is there to be clearly seen. Certainly, President Yameen has no housing unit of his own here. He only wishes for the homes to be given to their rightful owners"
A total 12,000 housing units had been constructed during President Yameen's term. In addition to the 7,000 units for the Hiyaa programme were housing units developed by public companies. 1,500 units had been developed as part of the Yameen administration's affordable housing programme.
The structure of those units had been completed in the past year.

In his tweet, referencing the reclamation of the Hulhumale Phase 2 project, Shiyam said that President Yameen had dredged land from the sea after understanding that housing was the greatest need of the people. The reclamation of Hulhumale Phase 2 began in the first year of Yameen's term, and was completed in his second year.

Shiyam said that the work done by President Yameen on Phase 2 was clearly visible for all to see. Shiyam said that of the thousands of housing units built on Phase 2, not one of those flats belonged to the former President. He said that Yameen would have wanted each of those flats to be inhabited by their rightful owners.
