None in the current administration has done anything that is in opposition to Islam, claimed Imran Abdullah, Minister of Home Affairs and President of the Adhaalath Party.
Imran Abdullah claimed that the Adhaalath Party would not be in coalition with an administration that opposed Islam.
It is however noteworthy that people linked to a report published by the Maldives Democracy Network; a report which many religious groups and scholars considered blasphemous; have not had legal measures taken against them, with some of them enjoying high positions within the government.
When starting out his campaign for the presidency of the Adhaalath Party, Imran Abdullah claimed that the Party would remain steadfast on its principles.
He promised that the Party would not let go of its principles as long as he leads the Party.
If the current administration had treated the people poorly or if it opposed Islam, he claimed, the Party would withdraw from the Coalition. He also claimed that no such things happened under President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s presidency.
Imran Abdullah praised the President heavily and claimed that the President could save the country from the economic troubles it faces today.
It is however worth noting that cases of blasphemy and Islamophobia as committed by locals and foreigners have risen since the current administration came to power. Many have accused the government of deporting the offenders while neglecting to take appropriate legal measures against them.
