President Yameen's Court Case

Yameen Acted in Good Faith: Justice Shaheed

Given that USD 1 million had been deposited in his personal bank account, former President Yameen did not act in bad faith, said Justice Shahid.
During the appeals hearing over the State's money-laundering case against the former President, Justice Hussain Shahid of the judge's panel said that the defendant had acted in good faith by taking the initiative to set up an escrow account for the suspicious USD 1 million.
Justice Shahid also mentioned that it is noteworthy that the former Vice President of the Anti Corruption Commission, Muavviz Rasheed, had said in his testimony that he had requested that it be conditioned that the State would have the right to take the USD 1 million from the account if needed.
The judge had also stated that the State had not been able to prove that the funds that had been deposited in the defendant's account had actually belonged to the State.
