President Yameen's Court Case

Adeeb and Ziyath are Criminals Whose Testimony Must Be Rejected: Justice Shaheed

The former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb, and the former Managing Director of the MMPRC, Abdullah Ziyath, are criminals and since the State was unable to prove why their testimony should be accepted, their testimony against the former President Yameen Abdul Gayyoom would therefore be rejected, said Justice Hussain Shaheed during the appeal hearing held at the High Court today.
Justice Shaheed mentioned this when he declared his opinion during the hearing. He added that it has been proven that the former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb had attempted to inflict major harm onto the defendant and his family. Therefore, Adeeb would have to be considered a hostile witness whose testimony could not be accepted.
Justice Shaheed added that both Adeeb and Ziyath had given their testimony in the Criminal Court in contravention to a Supreme Court ruling. He added that nothing in the record gave any weight to the testimony given by both Adeeb and Ziyath.
The former President's legal team had, on previous occasions, argued at both the Criminal Court and the High Court that neither Ziyath's nor Adeeb's testimony could be acceptable.
