The government has failed to confirm whether or not the World Health Organization had approved the COVID-19 vaccine shipped to the Maldives from India.
So far, none of the questions asked of Dr Nazla Rafeeq, spokesperson for the Health Emergency Operations Centre, have received a clear answer.
The question was asked of her in relation to a tweet published by the WHO on the 11th of January which indicates that the Serum Institute-manufactured AstraZeneca vaccine has not yet been approved for intentional use.
The tweet quotes Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General, who said that the WHO look “forward to Serum Institute of India submitting full data sets for rapid assessment so WHO can determine whether we can recommend their AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine for international use"
