A total sum of MVR 221 million has been given out as income support to aid people who had either lost their jobs or had their jobs affected during the COVID-19 outbreak, according to the Ministry of Finance.
People whose income had stopped were paid a monthly allowance of MVR 5,000, and people who earned less than MVR 5,000 had the difference paid.
Income support allowances were paid in batches; with the first batch paid for people affected in March, the second for July to September, and the third for October to December .
