Eight more individuals had tested positive for covid19 from Dhevvadhoo island in Gaaf Alif Atoll.
So far, 18 had tested positive from the island and currently the island is under monitoring.
Local paper, Sun online, quoted Dhevvadhoo Council Member Maumoon Ibrahim, who reported that eight out of the samples taken the previous day had tested positive.
A minor and an elderly person were amongst those who had tested positive. Residents are currently undergoing random sampling, to determine the spread of covid.
The first case in the island was reported on December 24th. Due to the rapid spread, Health Protection Agency (HPA) had publicly appealed to all who had traveled to Dhevvadhoo after November 30th to report to the closest health center or hospital. The Agency further appealed to those individuals to remain in self-quarantine until samples return negative.
Four individuals who had traveled to Fonadhoo island in Laamu Atoll from Dhevvadhoo had also tested positive. Islands in Laamu Atoll are under monitoring.
Fonadhoo Health Center reported that these four individuals had left Dhevvadhoo on December 27th.
