The Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has announced that new MVR 10 banknotes will be introduced into circulation starting from April 1, 2026.
The new notes, part of the “Ran Dhiha Faheh” series, were delivered to the central bank to address shortages and replace worn-out and damaged MVR 10 notes currently in use.
The MMA explained that the MVR 10 note, being a low-denomination bill, is widely used in daily transactions and therefore deteriorates faster than higher-value notes. It is also less frequently returned to banks for recirculation, which has contributed to supply constraints.
This is the third issuance of the MVR 10 note under the current series. The first was released on 5 October 2015 and the second on 10 March 2018.
The newly issued notes carry the signature of MMA Governor Ahmed Munawar and are dated 31 July 2025. The Maldivian Rufiyaa symbol will appear on both sides of the note, along with the denomination.
The new MVR 10 notes will circulate alongside the existing ones already in use.
