Vice President Highlights Listening to Citizens as Key Leadership Lesson from President

Vice President Uz Hussain Mohamed Latheef has identified the most valuable leadership lesson from President Dr Mohamed Muizzu as the importance of actively listening to citizens and addressing their concerns through concrete actions.
The Vice President shared these insights during an interview marking the 63rd anniversary of Voice of Maldives, reflecting on his political journey and early experiences. He recounted observations from his time at the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives, particularly during the closing phases of previous administrations, which reinforced his conviction that political leadership should be rooted in respect, responsibility, and accountability. He emphasised that public officials must align their words and actions with the interests of citizens and future generations.
Working closely with President Muizzu, the Vice President said, has underscored the significance of direct community engagement. He praised the President's method of attentively hearing public grievances before channeling decisions through proper institutional mechanisms, describing this approach as a defining influence on his own leadership style.
Drawing from his decade in Parliament, Vice President Latheef pointed to development achievements in Faresmaathodaa constituency as evidence that progress flourishes when policies prioritise public needs over individual or partisan interests. He affirmed his commitment to advocating reforms that serve broader societal benefits.
Concluding the interview, the Vice President reiterated that prioritising citizen input is fundamental to the current administration's governance philosophy, essential for sustaining public trust, shaping development agendas, and ensuring enduring national stability.
