Vessels to be relocated from Malé market area for road works

Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has instructed vessels operating in parts of the Malé Local Market area to relocate to facilitate road development works under Segment Two of the Boduthakurufaanu Magu project.
According to MPL, the beachfront area within the market zone will be cleared in three phases to allow for the construction of a quay wall. The first phase includes the area in front of the fish market, which is currently used by fishing vessels.
Vessels operating in this section have been directed to vacate the area by the 19th of this month, as quay wall construction along the road is scheduled to begin on the 20th. MPL said vessels displaced during this phase will be temporarily accommodated in the area in front of the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA).
The company also noted that signage will be installed to guide vehicle parking arrangements during the construction period.
The Government aims to complete development works across the entire area before the start of Ramadan. The second and third phases of the project will involve areas currently used for docking cargo vessels serving the atolls.
Segment Two of the Boduthakurufaanu Magu development spans 250 metres, extending from the Local Market area to the North Harbour. Practical works on the road are already underway, with the project being implemented by Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).
