Transport Ministry opens applications for commercial helicopter service operators

The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation has invited proposals from operators interested in providing commercial helicopter services in the Maldives.

The Ministry announced that eligible operators may now submit applications, with the deadline set for 2:00 p.m. on 25 January 2026. Applicants have been advised to review and comply with all requirements detailed in the Gazette.

According to the Ministry, the introduction of helicopter services aims to strengthen nationwide connectivity by enhancing commercial passenger transport, supporting medical evacuations, and improving search-and-rescue operations in remote islands and atolls. The service is also expected to contribute to tourism development.

The successful bidder will be awarded a 10-year exclusive agreement to operate commercial helicopter passenger services under the terms specified in the contract. The Ministry noted that the selected operator must also cooperate with Government requirements outlined in the agreement.
