Foreign Minister Departs for UNGA80 High-Level Week in New York

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Abdulla Khaleel, has departed for New York to attend the High-Level Week of the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA80). His visit marks a significant diplomatic engagement during the milestone year of commemorating 60 years since the Maldives joined the United Nations.
Throughout his visit, Minister Khaleel is scheduled to participate in multiple high-level meetings, including bilateral and multilateral engagements that underscore
the Maldives' growing voice in global affairs. The visit is expected to focus on:
- Climate change and sustainable development
- Human rights and multilateral cooperation
- Small Island Developing States (SIDS) advocacy
- Peace and security in the Indian Ocean region
Minister Khaleel's participation reflects the Maldives’ continued commitment to multilateralism and international diplomacy, particularly at a time when the world faces evolving global challenges.
The Maldives first became a member of the United Nations in 1965. This year’s engagements aim to celebrate the country’s contributions to global dialogue and reinforce its priorities on climate resilience, ocean governance, and inclusive development.
