The Maldives Meteorological Service has forecast an improvement in nationwide weather conditions starting next week, following a weekend of continued rain and thunderstorms.
According to the Met Office, isolated showers and thunderstorms are expected across various parts of the country over the weekend, with heavier rainfall likely during the afternoon hours. Some islands may experience periods of heavy rain accompanied by thunder within the next 24 hours.
Winds are expected to range from southwest to west across the country. In the northern and central atolls, wind speeds are forecasted to be between 15 and 25 miles per hour, while southern atolls will see slightly lighter winds of 7 to 17 miles per hour. During squalls, gusts may reach up to 40 miles per hour, with sea wave heights between four and seven feet.
The Met Office noted that southern atolls can expect an improvement in weather from Sunday, with conditions in the northern and central regions gradually clearing from Monday onward.
The agency confirmed that the current weather pattern is associated with the southwest monsoon and advised seafarers and the general public, particularly those travelling by sea, to remain cautious and stay updated on official advisories.
